New Delhi: ASK Automotive, a leading auto component manufacturer, has expanded into the passenger vehicle (PV) aftermarket segment through its joint venture (JV), AISIN ASK India Private Limited. Now, the company is exploring new opportunities as a systems supplier in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.
“We are building a strong, long-term partnership. As the market grows, more opportunities will emerge with the JV,” Aman Rathee, Executive Director of ASK Automotive told ETAuto.
KG Mohan, Chairman of AISIN Automotive Haryana and AISIN Automotive Karnataka, added, “We will continue discussions with ASK on exploring opportunities in the aftermarket space, particularly on the systems side.”
AISIN manufactures complete drivetrains for electrification, including electric motors, calipers, brake systems, entry systems, and driveline components. These products are already being offered to OEMs in the Indian market. However, the aftermarket space for EVs is still in its infancy.
Thus, AISIN aims to leverage this emerging trend to strengthen its position—not just as a components manufacturer but as a systems supplier.
“We are seeing a growing need for lightweight solutions, and this is where we anticipate a significant increase in the use of aluminum and other electronic components in the future. This opens up more opportunities for us to expand our offerings in the industry,” Rathee added.
Joint Venture
ASK Automotive is the leading manufacturer of brake shoes and advanced braking systems for two wheelers in India, holding approximately 50% market share in OEMs.
Last year, the company entered into a JV agreement with AISIN Group Companies, including AISIN Asia (Thailand) and AISIN Automotive Haryana, with the goal of selling and marketing auto components in the independent aftermarket for passenger car products.
“We see immense potential in the independent aftermarket. Initially, we will start with a few components, but as the market responds, we plan to expand our offerings significantly over time,” Rathee said.
India is the only market where AISIN was previously absent in the aftermarket space, and the company is now looking to leverage ASK’s strengths to establish a presence here. Mohan emphasized that the JV will help expand their product range and enhance their brand in India. “We have been supplying to OEMs for the past 10-12 years, and now we aim to use our operational units to further grow,” he said.
This venture marks ASK’s first significant expansion into PV components, diversifying beyond its core two-wheeler business. The JV will leverage ASK’s extensive distribution network alongside the high-quality product range from the AISIN Group. The first product from this partnership is slated for release in Q1 FY26 in India, followed by neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
ASK Automotive boasts a three-decade history of providing critical safety systems and complex precision solutions. The company offers powertrain-agnostic products across both automotive and non-automotive sectors, with a focus on EVs and exports.
It has diversified its operations, offering products in Advanced Braking Systems, Aluminum Lightweight Precision Solutions, and Safety Control Cables. The company has four technical collaborations and two joint ventures with leading global players.
