Ahmedabad Plane Crash: After the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and informed that he is in touch with the respective Ministers and authorities who are working to assist the affected. 

PM Modi, in a post on X, wrote that the tragedy is heartbreaking and added that his thoughts are with the people who were affected in this incident.

“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,” the post read.

The Prime Minister had a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu. 

Details Of Incident 

Air India, in a statement, confirmed that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident after take-off.

The flight had departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 pm on Thursday. It was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. 

“Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals,” Air India added. 

The injured were taken to the nearest hospitals.

Air India has also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number “1800 5691 444” to provide more information.

Other Leaders React To Incident

President Droupadi Murmu also posted on X and said that she is distressed to learn about the tragic incident. 

“I am deeply distressed to learn about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. It is a heart-rending disaster. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected people. The nation stands with them in this hour of indescribable grief,” she wrote.

Congress MP and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha wrote in a post that the crash is heartbreaking.

“The pain and anxiety the families of the passengers and crew must be feeling is unimaginable. My thoughts are with each one of them in this incredibly difficult moment,” he added. 

“Urgent rescue and relief efforts by the administration are critical – every life matters, every second counts,” the LoP continued.

Home Minister Shah informed on X that disaster response forces were rushed to the crash site and added that he spoke with the Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad.
