New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India on Friday said that with several new launches in CY 2023, it has revamped its entire model range in the country and is confident of crossing the 6 lakh sales mark in the domestic market this year.
“For the first time ever since entry in India, Hyundai is poised to breach the 600,000 domestic annual sales milestone in CY2023. Also, the company is on course to record the highest ever total sales (domestic + exports) in its history,” said the company in a statement.
Hyundai launched products starting from Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, i20, Verna, Venue, Exter, IONIQ 5, Adventure editions in Alcazar & Creta and Knight edition in Venue.
India’s contribution to Hyundai global sales stands at 18.6% during the January-September 2023 period, as against 15.6% in 2019.
Hyundai said its entry level SUV Exter has already received an overwhelming response with close to 1 lakh bookings “in quick time”. The company’s Creta remains the segment leader with 8 years of dominance and over 9.5 lakh customers. Its Ioniq 5 has recorded sales of close to 1000 units so far since its launch in early 2023.
In 2023, Hyundai increased its annual production capacity at Chennai plant by about 50,000 units to a total of 820,000 units. It has also has signed an asset purchase agreement with General Motors to acquire the Talegaon plant.
This acquisition will act as a catalyst towards reaching the 1 million production milestone for HMI in the short to mid-term, it said.
The automaker has also pledged an investment of INR 20,000 crores in Chennai towards capacity expansion, new products, and battery assembly plant. Aligning with ‘Make in India’ initiative, company has localized the production of its 1.5-litre turbo engine in India.
Safety Standardization
Redefining the entry SUV segment, Hyundai launched the EXTER earlier this year, setting a new standard with 6 Airbags offered as standard across all trims. Also, HMI became the first OEM in the industry to standardize 6 airbags across all models and variants, democratizing safety for all and establishing new safety benchmarks for the auto Industry in India. Another ground-breaking achievement was GNCAP 5-star safety rating for the mid-size sedan VERNA, making it the first made-in-India Hyundai car to secure a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test. The all new Hyundai VERNA has already risen the sales charts in 2023 and has firmly established itself as the leader in the mid high segment. Additionally, Hyundai recently introduced Venue with ADAS technology, making it the only compact SUV in India to offer ADAS.
Bolstering EV infrastructure
Hyundai Motor India is taking active steps to strengthen the EV infrastructure in India by building a comprehensive EV charging ecosystem. Hyundai has committed 100 EV charging stations in the home state of Tamil Nadu. The company is developing fast public chargers across key cities of Mumbai, Pune and highways such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Surat, Hyderabad-Vijayawada and more. Hyundai is also equipping their dealerships with DC 60KW fast chargers at 14 key locations and also providing convenient home charging solutions for IONIQ 5 and KONA customers.
Building Brand Connect & Developing Indigenous Technology
Enhancing its connect with the Indian audience, Hyundai welcomed Hardik Pandya as the brand ambassador for Hyundai EXTER. Hyundai has also done various brand activations like- association with women cricketers & golfers like Smriti Mandhana and Aditi Ashok and partnering with popular reality TV shows like KBC and Big Boss.
Hyundai has introduced new age India specific features such as Dual Camera Dashcam, 10 regional languages on infotainment and instrument cluster, 170+ embedded hinglish VR commands and much more.
