Myanmar Earthquake Today: Three consecutive earthquakes hit Myanmar and Thailand today, causing huge damage to lives and property. The first earthquake measured 7.7 at the Richter scale, the second was of 6.4 magnitude just 12 minutes later. Another aftershock measuring 4.4 magnitude was recorded nearly an hour later. Tremors were also felt in parts of Thailand and northeast India and China. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern after a massive earthquake struck the labouring countries. The rescue and relief operations are underway.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake hit at around 11.50 am and the epicentre was 16 Km northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 km.

Strong tremors were also felt in Bangkok, Thailand, causing chaos at the airport. Visuals shared on social media platforms showed buildings intensely shaking as the earthquake struck.

4.00 PM: The Embassy of India, Bangkok, issues an emergency number, +66 618819218, for Indian nationals in Thailand, which they can use in case of any emergency. “After powerful earthquake tremors recorded in Bangkok and in other parts of Thailand, the Embassy is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Thai authorities. So far, no untoward incident involving any Indian citizen has been reported…All members of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok and Consulate in Chiang Mai are safe,” said the Embassy.

3.45 PM: Myanmar’s state-run MRTV television said the military-run government’s proclamation includes the capital Naypyitaw and Mandalay, after the earthquake and a strong aftershock hit midday. Myanmar is in the midst of a civil war and many areas are not easily accessible. It was not immediately clear what relief efforts the military would be able to provide.

14:30 PM: Bangkok emergency responder stated that 7 people were rescued, at least two dead after the building collapse triggered by the earthquake, AP reported.

14:15 PM: After a massive earthquake in Myanmar, PM Modi shared a post on X and said, “Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand.”
