An accused in the murder of Bihar businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead in a police encounter. The cops had earlier arrested Umesh Yadav, who is allegedly the main shooter in the case. According to Zee News TV, the accused who was killed in the encounter has been identified as Vikas aka Raja, and had allegedly provided a weapon to the shooter.
The businessman was shot dead near his residence in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan area on Friday night, and the police were notified about the incident around midnight. This follows a similar tragedy from 2018, when the victim’s son, Gunjan Khemka, was also murdered.

Speaking to ANI, JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan said that, according to the information they received, the accused who was killed in the encounter tried to attack the cops and added that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is monitoring every incident.
“As per the information we have received, Police have killed an accused in the Khemka murder case who tried to attack police. Nitish Kumar ji is monitoring every incident,” he said.

The shooter, Umesh, was arrested by the STF and the Patna Police. IANS reported that he also confessed to killing Khemka for Rs. 1 lakh due to financial issues. A raid was conducted at Udaygiri Apartment under Kotwali PS, and weapons were recovered from the Ganga riverbank. Three people were detained by the police officials.
CM’s Meeting
After Gopal Khemka’s murder, CM Kumar on Saturday chaired a review meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar and other senior officials to assess the law and order situation in the state.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated that law and order was the government’s topmost priority, further stating that criminals in the state would not be spared at any cost.
On the other hand, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that hundreds of businessmen were being killed in Bihar, but it couldn’t be called “Jungle Raj.”
Police Action In Gopal Khemka Murder Case
Bihar Police had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by the Patna Central SP, to probe the murder case.
Khemka’s Son Requests Police Protection
Gaurav Khemka, the other son of Gopal Khemka, has requested police protection for his family, citing the murder of his brother, Gunjan.
“After this incident, my family and I are frightened. We request that the government and police provide us with security and ensure the safety of our family. Also, the perpetrators should be arrested and punished,” he wrote in his statement recorded in the FIR.
Gaurav narrated his father’s murder incident in the statement, and said that around 8:30 pm, his father had gone to the Bankipore Club. When he returned home at 11:20 pm, assailants who were already waiting at the gate shot him in the head.
Khemka’s son added that after hearing the gunshot and being alerted by the building guard, he and his wife rushed to the gate. There, they found Gopal lying in a pool of blood. Gaurav said they rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
